Edinburgh Extracts : This is my favourite page. It sums it all up !!
EDINBURGH TV FESTIVAL WHISTLE-BLOWING:- Complete transcript (but with shortcut links) of the Edinburgh GEITF TV Festival 1998 'TV Nickers' session when three creators of TV programme ideas told a 300-seat cinema audience how TV idea were (allegedly) stolen. I was one of them. I was also the only one who took my case to the BBC Governors. And won. All of which is death to anyone's career.
'USA Sales: BBC Enterprises offering my original 'Windfall' script/format - according to the BBC Governors for overseas' sales !
The Guardian Article:- Maureen Plantagenet was one of the other two whistle-blowers at Edinburgh - and this is her own witnessing in her own article in The Guardian newspaper. Full text.
'GrundyGate' - Here is a fascinating and amusingly written FT article on Grundy and Pearsons plc and Greg Dyke.
TV Code Introduction:- Following that Edinburgh TV Festival fracas - the TV industry got the lead out - and rapidly negotiated a 'Code of Best Practice'. This was negotiated with the TV creative-craft unions, on behalf of their members. This intro' explains and lists all the unions who back it today. I believe you have to belong to one of those unions in order to 'take advantage' of it. But don't worry if you're not a union member - you may do better by reading up on the classic Legal PRECEDENT CASE of "Rock Follies" - (See below)
'ROCK FOLLIES' LAW - Page 1:---Page 2 (here)...This is a vital WINNING case for all creative persons to read and savour. ---Three young actresses had an idea - then turned it into a stage show - then told certain TV senior executives about it in confidence. And then it was stolen by the same TV executives. The Judge's summing up is a sheer delight.... 'IN CONFIDENCE' was the key. Very encouraging and useful.
The TV 'Code' In Full :- Here is the TV Broadcasters' 'Best Practice' Code in full, with signatories.
'Hughie Green' LAW CASE:- This is a LOSER - but the first of two vitally important legal precedents which will always be there for Judges of copyright or other court cases. Hughie Green was an entertainer who tried - but failed - to sue New Zealand Broadcasting Ltd for stealing his format which was successful in the UK for many years and made him extremely famous. Actual text from the court record explains very clearly why he lost.
Copyright Insurance:- There is no official Central Government body in the UK or EC which will accept a REGISTRATION of anyone's creative work, whether on CD, computer disc or paper. But The USA Library of Congress has been doing this for years. And not only for their own USA citizens but also for any NON-USA citizens applying from their home-address outside the USA.
